Fidel Castro passed away today, and most of the MSM is leading their stories with the meme that he defied the US government. That is not how former president Harry Truman characterized the situation. He said that if it had been him he would have asked Castro what he needed to get his economy going. He would have given him as much as he could with no strings attached in order to get the relationship off on the right foot. He criticized what Eisenhower and Allen Dulles did as counterproductive diplomatically since it forced Castro to rely on the Soviets for his economic lifeline at a crucial moment in Cuba's history.
