Dan Hardway to Rep. Anna Luna
Dan Hardway along with Eddie Lopez co-wrote the legendary HSCA report formally titled Oswald, the CIA and Mexico City. Shorthand, it is called the Lopez Report, the reason being that it was written on Eddie’s typewriter. That report was not published in the HSCA volumes. When I asked Lopez why not, he said the following.
The day we went to meet with the CIA, there were three of them on one side of the table. There was Danny, Robert Blakey and me on the other. It took us 8 hours to get through the first two pages. Because they objected to every sentence.
If one reads the report, the first two pages deal with the camera coverage outside the Cuban embassy. One of the most startling aspects of the work these two gentlemen did was that they discovered the CIA could not produce a picture of Oswald at either the Cuban or Russian embassy. They found this odd since, as they describe it, the camera coverage was quite extensive and thorough at both sites. They also found out that whoever was speaking on some of the calls the CIA attributed to Oswald spoke fluent Spanish and broken Russian. To those who knew Oswald, the contrary was the case. (The JFK Assassination: The Evidence Today, by James DiEugenio, p. 288) Also, the person who interacted with Oswald the most, Cuban embassy receptionist Syliva Duran, denied the Agency story about a Saturday call. She said Oswald never came back after Friday. (ibid)
The Lopez Report proved that the CIA gave the Warren Commission a load of hokum on Oswald in Mexico City. It raises the most serious questions about whether or not Oswald was even there, or was he impersonated? Danny and Eddie also wrote up bills of indictment against David Phillips and Anne Goodpasture, whom they strongly suspected of being less than candid about the facts.
